*🌿 Sustainable Initiative for Eco-Friendly Ganpati Visarjan by Lions Club of Mahad 🌿* In a significant move toward environmental conservation, *Lions Club of Mahad*, under the leadership of *President Sneha Butala (2025)*, collaborated with local authorities to set up an *artificial immersion pond* (कृत्रिम तलाव) for Ganpati Visarjan during this year’s Ganesh festival. ✅ *Key Highlights:* - *55 Ganpati idols* (1.5-day visarjan) and - *40 Ganpati idols* (5-day visarjan) were immersed in the artificial pond instead of the *Savitri River*, a traditional but ecologically vulnerable site. 🌊 *Why This Matters:* For decades, thousands of idols were immersed directly in the Savitri River, increasing *chemical pollution, siltation, and damage to aquatic biodiversity*. This year’s initiative reduced the *environmental load on the river*, setting a new benchmark for *sustainable cultural practices*. 🌱 *Long-term Impact:* - *Reduction in water pollution* - *Preservation of riverine ecosystem* - *Awareness among local citizens* about eco-conscious celebrations - *Model for other towns in Konkan and Maharashtra* 🕊️ This step, though small in scale, creates *a ripple effect*—encouraging community participation, nurturing respect for nature, and integrating tradition with sustainability. *Lions Club of Mahad* remains committed to blending *culture with conservation*, inspiring responsible celebrations for generations to come.
